Does autorec send my recordings anywhere?

No. Recordings, transcripts, and the meeting library all live on your disk in a folder you choose. Detection, recording, and transcription run entirely on your machine. There is no telemetry and no analytics. The only network calls are the ones you cause: the one-time speech-model download, license activation with its weekly re-check (license key and device name), and AI summaries or webhooks if you set them up.

Does it work offline?

Yes, for everything except a couple of optional features. Detection, recording, transcription (after the one-time model download), the video library, trim and compress, and webhooks to local destinations all work fully offline. Your license activates once over the network and re-checks weekly when it can; if you're offline at re-check time, autorec keeps working. AI summaries and external webhook destinations are the only things that need the internet at the moment they run.

What if I don't want AI summaries?

Leave the feature off. Autorec ships with AI summaries disabled. When you turn it on, you provide your own API key for any OpenAI-compatible service (OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, or a local Ollama or llama.cpp server). Only the transcript text is sent. Audio and video stay on your machine. The model and endpoint are entirely up to you.

Is there a free version?

Yes. Autorec is free to use with a limit of 3 recordings per rolling 24 hours, each capped at 40 minutes. Buy a license to remove both limits. The free version is otherwise fully featured — same detection, recording engine, transcription, library, and AI summaries.

Does it require any external software?

Recording and the video library work out of the box. Transcription needs a one-time download of a speech model (75 MB to 3 GB) from inside the app. On macOS, capturing the other participants' audio needs a virtual loopback device such as BlackHole. The optional AI summary feature needs an API key from an OpenAI-compatible service.

Is there a macOS build?

Yes. autorec ships a macOS build for Apple Silicon, as a .dmg on the downloads page. It isn't notarized by Apple yet, so the first launch means dragging it to Applications, then right-clicking it there and choosing Open. Intel Macs are not supported.

Do I need to configure anything?

Accepted Answer

Not really. Autorec works out of the box with sensible defaults. Launch it and it starts detecting meetings automatically. Transcription and AI summaries are off until you switch them on, and all other settings are optional.

Question 10

Which languages can it transcribe?

Accepted Answer

Seventeen: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Autorec detects the spoken language by itself, or you can pin one in Settings if your calls are always in the same language. For anything other than English, the medium or large speech model is noticeably more accurate than the smaller ones.
